1. Grinding vibration, machine tool abnormal noise
Reason: CBN grinding wheels have high hardness and density, differing from conventional wheels in balance and rotational characteristics; this effect is more pronounced when the spindle clearance of old machine tools is excessive.
Manifestation: Straight waves and chatter marks appear on the workpiece surface, accompanied by a low-frequency buzzing sound from the machine tool.
2. The surface roughness of the workpiece suddenly deteriorates
Reason: CBN grinding grains are sharp and have strong cutting capabilities, while the feed and speed parameters of the original conventional grinding wheel are mismatched.
Appearance: Surface scratches, rough tool marks, failing to meet the original smoothness standard.
3. The workpiece is prone to grinding burns
Reason: The thermal conductivity characteristics of ceramic CBN differ from those of conventional grinding wheels, resulting in unchanged heat dissipation conditions, excessive feed rates, and inadequate cooling.
High-frequency materials: bearing steel, high-speed steel, and high-alloy steel.
4. The grinding wheel cannot effectively cut or conversely cuts too aggressively
• Unable to cut: insufficient grinding wheel dressing, abrasive grains not exposed, binder too hard
• Excessive cutting force: Parameters remain unchanged, CBN's cutting efficiency far exceeds that of conventional grinding wheels, making it highly prone to exceeding tolerance limits.
